Meet the Curl-Crested Aracari

Animal’s Behavior

Curl-Crested Aracaris (Pteroglossus beauharnaesii) nest in tree cavities where both parents incubate their eggs. They are generally gregarious and fly in small flocks of 3-12 birds or in pairs through the canopy, foraging in fruiting trees.

Eating Habits

Aracaris feed in flocks, using their large bills to pluck fruits. They pass undigested seeds, helping new plants to grow.

Conservation Efforts

Although Aracari populations are decreasing, they are not labeled endangered. Sustainable forestry practices protect rainforest trees where Aracaris nest.

The Curl-Crested Araçari is part of the toucan family. Curl-crested Aracaris are a beautifully colored, glossy-feathered birds with curled feathers on their crown. They the second largest aracari.

Range

The curl-crested araçari is endemic to South America and has an extremely large range across Bolivia, Brazil, and Peru.
