Animal Facts

Maned wolves are unique in that they will eat both plant and animal matter. They are adept hunters, usually finding small animals like rodents and insects to consume.  Interestingly, during certain parts of the year, they will consume almost exclusively one fruit called a 'wolf apple'. They are primarily nocturnal and often solitary, except for when they are raising pups.

Typically weight between 50 and 60 pounds. Life span in the wild is unknown, but in human care around 12 years.

Range

Maned wolves range through central and eastern South America including northern Argentina, South and Central Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia and southern Peru.
