Inclusion & Camper Support

Audubon Camps are traditional camps that welcome all children to join in our exploration of nature. Our camp days are very active and engage campers in a variety of activities with quick transitions and sensory changes throughout the day. All campers are expected to follow directions, adhere to safety rules, and behave according to our Code of Conduct ("Be Kind, Be Respectful, Stay with the Group").

Our camp day experience includes:

  • Exploring facility grounds, which includes a variety of sights, sounds, lights, and temperatures, and often includes navigating through crowds.
  • Maneuvering on uneven terrain.
  • Spending time both outdoors and indoors, with Zoo campers spending more time outdoors and Aquarium & Insectarium campers spending more time indoors.
  • Utilizing public restrooms.

Our team is happy to work with campers and their families to make each child feel welcome and included in a safe environment. We are unable to provide one-on-one support (including assisting campers in the bathroom) or administer medication. Campers are welcome to attend with 1:1 aides or paraprofessionals – please notify us in advance at [email protected].

Camper Safety

Camper safety is our top priority. As such, camper supervision is kept as close to the following ratios as possible: 6:1(Kindergarten), 8:1 (1st-4th grade), 10:1 (5th through 7th grade) Audubon Camps also have a "Rule of Three," which means that campers will never be left unsupervised and will always be in a group of at least three individuals, one of which will always be a staff member. All staff undergo a federal background check and drug test prior to employment and are trained on emergency procedures.
