SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction
SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction® is a program that combines the power of zoo and aquarium visitors with resources and expertise of Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoos and aquariums to save vulnerable wildlife species from extinction. Audubon Nature Institute has supported sharks, rays, and penguins through this program.
Audubon’s involvement in the creation of the program helped get the program operational. As such, Audubon Nature Institute is a founding supporter of the SAFE program and one of the top zoos that showed the commitment. Audubon has continued its support through a substantial, multi-year pledge to help ensure that the program continues to mature.
Audubon’s SAFE Species & Programs
As a member of the AZA SAFE network, Audubon participates in multiple programs focused on species survival and education. Each program combines on-the-ground conservation, breeding efforts, and public engagement to create measurable impact.
